Hello, my name is Lou Cabales, and I am currently battling stomach cancer. It all started in November when I moved to Fargo, North Dakota, for a contract nursing position. A few weeks after arriving, I was rushed to the emergency room for gastrointestinal bleeding, and the doctors diagnosed me with Stage 3 carcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction, also known as stomach cancer.
I am currently undergoing chemotherapy and facing the physical and mental stress that comes with fighting cancer. On top of that, I recently learned that my work contract will not be extended, which is a setback. I need to focus on my health and recovery.
I am grateful for the support of my friends and family, who have been by my side throughout this journey. I am confident that I can overcome this challenge with the love and support of those around me.
I hope that by sharing my story, I can raise awareness about stomach cancer and offer support to others who are going through similar challenges. Together, we can all help each other smash cancer and come out stronger on the other

Turns out the surgeon’s office/nurse neglected to notify me. Yet more stress, worry and…
Diagnosis
You’ll have to for forgive the the non-linear storyline, think the likes the Pulp Fiction. Hopefully will eventually make more sense as story unfolds. I have chemo brain (https://www.cancer.gov/publications/dictionaries/cancer-terms/def/chemo-brain ) as a side effect which might explain my semi-coherent ramblings. On December 1, 2023 I left work early. Life took a hard turn from here.…
